Today I leave Nova Scotia for Prince Edward Island. There is a ferry terminal just north of Pictou and I took my time getting up there as ferries leave about every hour and a half. I wanted to be early however and the 9:30 AM ferry was about 15 minutes late and I rolled right onto it just in time. These are big roll-on, roll-off ferries as used in many parts of the world. This one was full of trucks, cars, and RV's and there is always room for a bicycle. it's about a 70 minute voyage.
It was a pretty hot day and after picking up a couple maps at the information office, I was off on the Confederation Trail. This trail runs the length of Prince Edward Island. Read a little about it here; Confederation Trail

The surface was a tad softer than I would have liked, but like all the rail trails, the grades are minimal and there is some shade. Interestingly, the early sections have a light grass over growth, not really interfering with the ride, and adding some color. Speaking of color, I found the weeds of Prince Edward Island quite colorful.
As with all other rail trails, I got a little bored and jumped off the trail and onto a road for awhile. It was a lot hillier on the road, although the one picture that looks like I might be climbing a 20% grade is distorted by my telephoto lens. I shouldn't have admitted that. I went back on the trail in short order in any case.
After some hunting and pecking after arriving in Charlottetown, I found a really nice dorm room at Holland College. It really is more like a two bedroom apartment. No dining hall like the last college stay, but instead a continental breakfast. Staying two nights in order to see Charlottetown tomorrow.
