NOVA SCOTIA - DAY 65 - AUG 6

After my second night in Cheticamp, I was off on the last part of the Cabot Trail for me. I forgot to mention that you actually leave Cape Breton Highlands National Park just before getting to Cheticamp. The first picture is St. Peter's Church, a landmark hard to miss. For those interested in reading about the town; Chéticamp, Nova Scotia

It was a fairly good day, except for the oppressive heat. At Margaree Harbor, I left the Cabot Trail to begin the Ceilidh Trail (pronounced, "kay-lee") which is route 19. A lunch break in the very nice town of Inverness, followed by some climbing to a junction near Mabou with the Celtic Shores Coastal Trail. This rail-trail runs from Inverness to Port Hastings. Again, read about it here;  http://www.celticshores.ca/maps-info/about-the-trail/

So, I could have picked up this trail back in Inverness if I was more aware. I have mixed emotions about these very well maintained rail-trails in Canada. Sometimes they are boring, with very little to see except a wall of trees on both sides. The advantages are you can avoid some hills on the highways and they are usually shady. I jumped on the trail here for the shade afforded as it was damn hot!

I got myself down to the small town of Port Hood on this rail-trail. Not a room to be found, but a nice restaurant for dinner and a giant campground where I didn't have to set up my tent, but camped in a small cabin on a wooden platform bed. No electricity, but roomy for me and my bike. Night 6 of camping.

It was Natal Day here and there were fireworks, a pretty good display, that thankfully ended about 10 PM. Natal Day in Canada
