The first picture is sunrise from my camp in South Harbor. I was up and out early this morning for some reason or other. I passed the ONLY place to eat before it opened at 8:00 AM. I didn't realize it at the time, but this was a very empty stretch of road. Somehow I survived on an apple and a banana all the way to Pleasant Bay, about 23 miles and very hilly.
After stuffing my face it was too early to quit, so continuing the road immediately started climbing up to almost 1500 feet and adding insult to injury it was under construction and gravel most of the way. Cars and trucks were kicking up dust and as it got steeper I had to walk some. Later, the construction was over, but the hills were omnipresent. Thankfully, there were some nice views to ease my mind. Back in Pleasant Bay, I called ahead and made a reservation at a really nice place in Cheticamp for two nights, knowing I would need a good rest.
The ride today was almost 100 feet gain per mile. For those who don't know, this is a very bad idea on a heavy touring bike.
